If you are free to choose your own topic then you have a wide range of options in front of you. Based on your knowledge and interest you should choose a topic to write about. So, this is the first step that must be taken.
Make an outline or diagram about your opinions:
After knowing about the topic many things come to your mind. Don’t let them make you confused take a piece of paper and write all of your ideas on the paper. Try to connect them somehow so you will get an organized structure of your thoughts. Also, you can make a diagram to help you. To create a diagram, write your topic in the middle of your page. Draw three to five lines branching off from this topic and write down your main ideas at the ends of these lines. Draw more lines off these main ideas and include any thoughts you may have on these ideas. Whatever works for you best in this step should be considered and remember the purpose here is to organize your thoughts and ideas scattering in your mind.
Make an introduction:
Now that you have the topic and your structured ideas, the real writing should get started. The firs step is to start with an introduction. The reader should know instantly what he/she is going to read about. So, prepare a sentence or a short paragraph to tell your reader of the whole story. It shouldn’t be too long because it is just letting know the reader what to expect to read.
Start the body of your writing:
Now that you have introduced the topic to the reader by writing an introduction, start supporting your topic with explanations and descriptions. The body of your essay argues, explains or describes your topic. Each main idea that you wrote in your diagram or outline will become a separate section within the body of your essay. Each body paragraph will have the same basic structure. Begin by writing one of your main ideas as the introductory sentence. Next, write each of your supporting ideas in sentence format, but leave three or four lines in between each point to come back and give detailed examples to back up your position. Fill in these spaces with relative information that will help link smaller ideas together.
Write the result:
Now it’s time to wrap up everything that you have written. In this section you should have three to four strong sentences to finish up your whole writing. It’s just like a short summary of all your writing.
Don’t think that you are done. Because you are not. After all your writing is finished you should double check it for any possible mistakes that you may have made. Check the order of your paragraphs to see if they follow a reasonable order. Sometimes you should follow a special format in your writing, so make sure you have done so. By doing all these steps you are going to have a good and an effective essay to touch your reader’s heart.
