If you want to travel by plane to a place where the time zone is different from yours then you are going to suffer from a problem called “jet lag”.

What is jet lag?

Jet lag can occur when sleep-wake patterns are disturbed. A person may feel drowsy, tired, irritable, lethargic, and slightly disoriented.

It can result from traveling across time zones or from doing shift work.

The more time zones a person crosses in a short period, the more severe the symptoms are likely to be. Jet lag is related to a disruption in activity and a lack of synchronization in the brain cells of two parts of the brain.


How can we overcome the problem?

Here are some tips to help you with the problem.


Have a flexible schedule

Before you start your travel try to have a relaxed schedule so you don’t have to be under pressure of traveling.


Sleep well before you fly

Some travelers do their things until the last minute of their departure. This is not very good. Try to be ready for your flight way before your departure time and have a good night sleep before your flight.


Avoid arriving at night

If it’s possible, try to book a flight in a way that when you get to your destination it is not night time.


Split up the trip

Try and build in a stopover, so your body has more time to adapt to the new routine. This can also slash the price of your airfare.


Don’t have sleeping pills or caffeine

Sleeping pills are not only helpful but make you more nauseated and caffeine also keeps you more alert in time you don’t want to. So, let your natural body clock take care of the situation.


Keep on moving

Move around regularly and do exercises to keep the blood flowing. And if you've ever wondered how to avoid DVT, you should know that good circulation is key. Investing in a pair of flight socks will minimize the risk of DVT and improve circulation (a slowing of which is one of the most common effects of jet lag). Who cares if they look horrendous? This isn't a fashion show.


There are some other things that you can do to help to overcome jet lag but these can help you out whenever possible.
