Abortion? What is it?
Abortion is when a pregnancy is ended or terminated so that the child is not born. It can be either done by pills or surgery.
Abortion has been a very disputable issue. Some people are against it with their own reasons and some others are for it with their special points of views. Here with no judgment, we look at some of the cons and pros surrounding the title.
The people who are against abortion believe that life begins at the beginning of conception. So, aborting a fetus is like killing a human being that is not acceptable. They also believe that with so many children with no parents and waiting to be adopted there is no such a child as unwanted one. So, it is not a good reason to abort a child.
An abortion also puts the mother’s life in jeopardy and may have side effects like a miscarriage and pelvic inflammatory disease. Another belief is that it shouldn’t be used as a contraceptive.
Another thought that should be considered seriously is that the majority of women choosing abortion are from very young age and are minorities and they also may have regrets afterward that causes psychological problems for them.
These were the ideas against abortion.
Now, let’s look at the ideas for abortion.
These people say that because abortion is done in the first trimester a fetus is still attached to the mother and cannot be considered as a separate person. So, abortion is not a murder.
Also, in their belief adoption cannot be an alternative for the mothers who think about abortion.
Studies show that mothers who actually give birth to a child do not want to give away their child. Because of the technology and modern medicine abortion is a safe procedure and is not a dangerous process for mothers. Like any other difficult situation, abortion creates stress. Yet the American Psychological Association found that stress was greatest prior to an abortion and that there was no evidence of post-abortion syndrome.
All in all, abortion remains an issue with its pros and cons. Let’s hope that there will be a time that no mother has to decide to get rid of her child.
