Continuing from the last section about interesting story books; here are some other ones for you to have a summary about.

The Old Man and the Sea ( by Ernest Hemmingway ):

The story is about an old and experienced fisherman named Santiago. He has come back from the sea after 84 days without any fish in his hands. A young boy also helps him with the fishing but after this unsuccessful trip his parents ask him to join another boat. But he continues helping the old fisherman at nights.

On the 85th day Santiago goes fishing with the boy and catches a very big fish. The biggest that he has ever caught. He comes back to the village but when he is there only the bones of the fish has remained. The villagers are shocked by the size of the fish.


The Giver (by Lois Lowry):

Jonas a young boy lives in a place that is ruled by orders and regulations. It is safe all right but no one makes any decisions there. The decisions are made for the people. The people try not to say anything different. One rule is that you must never say anything that will make another person uncomfortable. Every husband and wife is matched by a special committee. Each family has two children, one boy and one girl. When Jonas is twelve he is given a job to receive the other people’s memories. At first he is very excited about the job but after a while he realizes that it’s not an easy job.



Number the Stars (by Lois Lowry):

The story is about a 10-year-old girl whose name is Annemarie and the time of the story is around World War II. The place of the story is Copenhagen, Denmark. There are soldiers everywhere and Jewish are in danger. Annemarie’s best friend is also a Jew, so she is worried about her. It’s not only the Jewish who are in danger. Her elder sister, Lise is also lost few weeks before her wedding. She will join the resistance party to fight against the Nazis. She ends up being a heroine (a female hero) for a few reasons.


Peter Pan (by J.M. Barrie):

Every night Peter goes to a house to listen to a story that Mrs. Darling tells him. She knows a lot of bedtime story and one night while he is listening to one of the stories he tries to escape. While escaping he loses his shadow so he goes and asks the daughter of the family for help. This is a magical story and it has many adventures happening in the story.
